Child/Youth Program Facilitator
Grande Prairie Family Education Society is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Facilitator to join our team. Seeking a casual position to work in a flexible position to meet the children and youth at times they are available. (some weekdays, Pro-D days, after school hours, and possible weekends)
The ideal candidate will have a passion fro working with children and a strong commitment to educating and empowering young minds. As a child and youth facilitator you will be responsible for facilitating a variety of child and youth programming. You will play a vital role in guiding and supporting children and youth to navigate challenges, develop essential life skills to reach their full potential. Your dedication to fostering positive relationships and providing mentorship will contribute to the growth and well-being for the children and youth you work with.
Responsibilities.
· Facilitate child and youth programs, sessions, pop ups, workshops, and play days for different ages.
· Create a safe and inclusive atmosphere where all participants feel valued and encouraged to express themselves.
· Work alone, and with other staff members, and community volunteers.
· Lead play-based teachings in childminding sessions during parent education workshops, etc., that follow children’s age and assessed needs.
· Educate and empower children and youth through mentorship programs aimed at enhancing personal development and decision-making skills.
· Engage with children and youth in group settings to provide guidance, support, and encouragement.
· Assist children and youth in promoting self-confidence and resilience.
· Collaborate with community resources to provide additional support and opportunities for child and youth development.
· Maintain accurate records of interactions and progress to track outcomes of programming.
· Organize and facilitate activities that promote learning, creativity, and social engagement among children and youth participants.
· Act as a positive role model by demonstrating integrity, empathy, and effective communication skills.
· Work closely with Child and Youth Coordinator, follow curriculum set up, and help to plan new innovative sessions for children/youth based on needs/ trends in community aged 3-18 yrs.
· Attend training and have a good understanding of the curriculum you will be teaching.
· Ensure program materials are prepared, used, and returned in a timely fashion, including surveys/feedback forms.
· Adhere to all GPFES policies and procedures.
· Actively promote GPFES services, and all programs being run to the community.
· Work with children and youth with a non-judgmental, trauma informed lens.
Qualifications Required.
- Diploma, or degree in human services, social work, or Early Learning and Child Care OR a minimum 3 years’ experience working with Families, Children, and youth.
- Experience facilitating groups would be considered as an asset
- Flexibility to adapt to changing environment and schedules to accommodate the needs for the children and youth.
- Knowledge of community resources and services beneficial for supporting child and youth development.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries while establish a trusting relationship quickly with individuals, specifically children and youth of all ages
- Respect for the diversity of cultural differences and beliefs
- Work from a strength based, trauma informed approach
- Knowledge of community resources
- Excellent interpersonal skills, communication, and written skills
- Work well in a team atmosphere
- Satisfactory background screening, including a criminal record/police information check and child welfare check
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $21.00-$23.00 per hour
