For more than 50 years, Accredited Supports to the Community (ASC), a not-for-profit charitable society, has been providing services across south central Alberta. We serve over 1500 people a year including children, youth, and adults diagnosed with disabilities; families, and seniors Olds, Airdrie, Strathmore and surrounding areas.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Are you looking to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children and youth as a Child and Youth Support Worker? Your skills can help shape their futures!
Our team of Support Workers provide fun and interactive respite services for children and youth diagnosed with disabilities, while supporting their needs, interests, and well-being.
Do you have a passion for support work, but have limited experience? Our training programs will give you the skills and experience you need to confidently care for our clients and positively effect their lives!

EDUCATION AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12, GED, or equivalent experience;
  • A minimum of 1 year working with people diagnosed with disabilities will be considered an asset;
  • Have or be willing to obtain First Aid/CPR Level C;
  • A clear Vulnerable Sector Check;
  • A clear Child Intervention Records Check;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Knowledge and ability to use computers and technology effectively;
  • Clients participate in a range of community access programming including physical activities, such as swimming! Support Workers are encouraged to participate in these activities!
Responsibilities
  • Support our clients as they engage in meaningful activities;
  • Assist in the implementation of support plans;
  • Facilitate basic life skills and healthy habits;
  • Employ a variety of communication strategies to create an inclusive environment;
  • Foster client socialization and community engagement;
  • Collaborate with the ASC team, families and others to provide quality care that aligns with each client’s needs;
  • Monitor for health and safety issues and respond to unsafe client situations;
  • Safely transport and accompany clients to off-site activities on a regular basis;
  • Participate in maintaining a clean, safe, supportive and accommodating environment;
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and records
