JOB POSTING Violence Against Women’s Services Child and Youth Support Worker (Canada Summer Jobs Position) 8 Week Contract- 35 Hours Per Week 1 Position Wage: $22.60 Per Hour Posting No. MS0645   KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:  * Assist in the development and implementation of a recreational summer program for children and youth living in the shelter * Plan and assist in the facilitation of recreational activities to suit the needs of the program; this includes ongoing assistance with the children’s playroom * Assist in providing support and advocacy to children and youth in the shelter  * Immediately report any child protection concerns to the Management Team or Director, Violence Against Women’s Services * Assist employees in the daily maintenance of the program; this may include cleaning the playroom, providing childcare while guardians attend meetings, and identifying maintenance and security needs * Offer support to the Residential Client Advocates when needed * Adhere to a strict policy of confidentiality  * Ensure Mission Service’s workplace Health and Safety policies and procedures are followed at all times * Other duties as required to ensure the continuation of service to participants in the space QUALIFICATIONS:  * Demonstrate a basic understanding of gender-based violence, child abuse, homelessness and trauma * Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and take initiative  * Strong interpersonal skills  * Exemplifies excellent skills in working with vulnerable people  * Organized, with excellent verbal and written communication skills * Ability to work independently and within a team setting  * Demonstrated understanding around importance of confidentiality  * Committed to upholding the organization’s mission, values and standards This position has been made possible through the funding provided by the Canada Summer Jobs Program. Eligible applicants must meet the following criteria: * is between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment*; * is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act**; and * has a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulation * *The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period. * **International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
