Job Title: Child and Youth Worker
Status: Temporary Part Time (18 months)
Department: Child/Adolescent Mental Health
Program: Mental Health & Addictions
Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekends - 4, 8 and 12 Hour Shifts (Subject to Change)
Location: Lakeridge Health Oshawa
Wage Schedule: $35.600 - $41.250 per hour

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College diploma/university degree in child and youth work is required.
  • Minimum of two years work experience in an acute child & adolescent inpatient or crisis program is preferred, with a minimum of 2 years experience in a mental health program (i.e. outpatient, mental health case management, etc.) is required.
  • This position requires Monday to Friday day shift (0700-1500) availability and employment may be reviewed if availability changes once hired.
  • Experience in crisis assessment and short-term treatment of children and adolescents experiencing severe mental health disorders preferred;
  • Demonstrated ability to assess youth and problem solve solutions to complex concerns is required.
  • Experience in facilitating psychoeducational or skills based groups is required
  • Training in CBT, DBT, Brief Intervention is preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health care facilities, community support systems and social service agencies;
  • Demonstrated effective organizational, prioritization and problem-solving abilities;
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to foster good public relations and effective working relationships in a family centered environment;
  • Working knowledge of French or other languages is an asset;
  • Must have satisfactory performance record;

Responsibilities

Working as part of the Child, Youth and Family Program, the successful candidate’s primary duties will be to support the Child and Adolescent Inpatient Program (CAIP) with potential cross coverage of the Youth Crisis Team. In the primary role, the successful candidate will work with the interdisciplinary team and provide assessment, develop individualized care plans, safety plans and implement behavioural intervention as needed. The CYC is responsible for facilitating daily groups, collaborating with caregivers and others, to support patient functioning and treatment goals. When required, the successful candidate may cross over and support youth crisis in the completion of assessments for patients up to 24 years of age in the emergency department. Assessment and collaboration to determine disposition and connecting patients with community resources are key components of this service.
