Position Summary: This position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit to strengthen the community. Models supportive and flexible leadership. Works collaboratively with staff to promote best practices in childcare. Guides positive child behavior and provides coaching as needed. Manages administrative responsibilities with accuracy and efficiency. Communicates effectively and respectfully with families. Ensures compliance with all childcare licensing standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Collaborates with the Department Director to promote healthy living, social responsibility, and youth development. Serves as a role model for other staff and participants. Collaborates with the Department Director to create and lead staff and volunteers in executing campaigns, programs, classroom management, and/or curriculum for the advancement of the YMCA while ensuring best practices in child development, safety, licensing standards, and the YMCAs reputation and providing the highest level of customer service. Partners with Department Director to lead staff and/or volunteers in providing quality programming while adhering to all standards and child development best practices. Helps oversee the department's daily operations while adhering to budget objectives. Ensures program staff are actively supervising participants, fostering appropriate behavior management, and embracing working with children in varied environments. Implements onboarding programs for new staff and organizes regular training on child safety, curriculum development, and behavior management. Provides ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance staff skills in early childhood education. Sends monthly newsletters with important updates, upcoming events, and child development tips. Organizes family-oriented events such as holiday celebrations and parent appreciation days to foster a strong sense of community. Actively listens to parent concerns, provides feedback, and addresses issues as they arise. Assists the Department Director with staff and/or volunteer recruitment, communication, development, and management. Conducts regular performance evaluations, leads regular team meetings, and offers one-on-one support to foster a positive and collaborative work environment. Assists the Department Director with staff and volunteers to ensure operations are safe and clean at all times. Leads regular fire and evacuation drills. Ensures proper handwashing routines, sanitation of toys and surfaces, and illness prevention protocols are implemented. Coordinates with facility director if maintenance issues arise. Ensures children and staff are properly checked in and out of the classroom. Follows DHHS Childcare Licensing rules and safe sleep protocols in accordance with Childcare Licensing and the American Academy of Pediatrics. Implements and enforces policies on child supervision, behavior management, and emergency procedures. Accurately documents any incidents, injuries, or violations. Ensures compliance with the required child-to-staff ratios. Ensures all licensing regulations are followed in accordance with the licensing handbook. Ensures all staff training and certifications are up to date. Conducts regular checks to ensure health and safety standards are met, including sanitation, fire safety, and playground equipment maintenance. Creates and manages staff schedules to maintain the proper staff-to-child ratios, ensures sufficient coverage during peak times, accommodates time-off requests, and stays adaptable to handle last minute changes or emergencies. Builds effective, authentic relationships with children and their guardians, using positive language and active listening to address concerns. Greets children and families warmly each day. Communicates positively with guardians when sharing behavior and developmental concerns. As a Mandated Reporter, recognizes signs of abuse or neglect and reports to supervisor and the appropriate authorities. Monitors children for signs of illness and document as per policy. Essential Experience and Skill Requirements: 5-7 years of experience in a related field. CPR and First Aid certification required within 60 days of hire. Team player, with superb interpersonal skills. An ability to work with co-workers and the public in a positive and friendly manner and resolve conflicts as needed. Self-starter with the ability to multi-task, lead others, work independently, and adapt to changing circumstances in a fast-paced environment. General computer skills with the ability to effectively learn and use new software. MRTQ certifications within 30 days of hire. Essential Education Requirements: High School degree or GED, or equivalent experience.
