Description

Heritage Family Services is currently seeking an experienced Team Lead to join our team in Red Deer, Alberta. We are looking for someone who is authentic, service-driven, responsible, organized, and outgoing, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build healthy, supportive relationships with children and youth through a trauma-informed approach.
Shift: 4 days on / 4 days off, 8-hour overnight shifts (11 PM – 7 AM)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A two-year diploma in Human Services (or a related field) combined with at least three (3) years of experience working with children or youth.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must provide a clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, a Child Intervention Record Check, a valid Class 5 Driver’s License, and a Driver’s Abstract with fewer than 6 demerits.
  • Strong knowledge of therapeutic practices, including the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) model.
  • Understanding of child development, trauma, grief, and loss.
  • Recognition and respect for Indigenous traditions and culturally appropriate practices.
  • Ability to work effectively across diverse communities, with sensitivity toward various identities, backgrounds, and experiences.
  • Skilled in cross-cultural communication and inclusive teamwork.
    Mandatory Requirements:

    A Criminal Record Check (with Vulnerable Sector) that is dated within the last 6 months
    A Child Intervention Check that is dated within the last 6 months
    Proof of eligibility to work in Canada
    Class 5 Alberta Government Issued Driver’s License
    A Driver’s Abstract that is dated within the last 6 months
    Copy of education listed in resume.

Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain trusting, respectful relationships with children and youth.
  • Provide a safe and secure environment, discouraging youth from leaving without permission, and following safety protocols to maintain emotional stability and reduce anxiety.
  • Lead the shift by offering support, coaching, and guidance to both staff and clients.
  • Facilitate daily routines and youth-focused programming.
  • Assist with meal preparation and other day-to-day activities.
  • Support the development of the youths’ self-esteem and celebrate their successes.
  • Advocate for the rights and needs of each youth, including ensuring access to the Child and Youth Advocate.
  • Create a nurturing environment that supports the emotional needs of the youth.
  • Assist youth in building essential life skills, such as social processing, cognitive reframing, and self-regulation.
