Summary: This job is responsible for activities in the playroom as instructed by the Child Life Specialist while monitoring the safety of the children as well as providing a child friendly environment. Responsibilities: Maintain a safe environment in the playroom, monitor general health needs in the playroom and ask for assistance from nursing when appropriate; provide toys and activities that are appropriate for a wide developmental range of children; take developmentally appropriate toys and activities to individual patients confined to rooms; and set up the playroom activities, supervise the activities and clean up area. Provide input to the Child Life Specialist about observed specific needs of individual children; determine when the needs of individual children should be attended to by medical professionals and / or outside the general scope of the role of the Child Life Assistant. Provide guidance to community groups visiting the playroom(s); supervise volunteers assisting in the playroom; assist with acceptance of donations and materials handling for the department. Ability to meet physical and non-physical demands as outlined in the job description is an essential function of the job. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
