What You'll Be Doing Wake County Child Welfare currently serves over 700 children in our foster care system. Child Protective Services (CPS) is responsible for protecting children and enhancing their overall well-being by supporting and strengthening families. The Child Welfare division has three federally mandated goals. The first goal is safety - children will be protected from harm from child abuse and neglect. The second goal is permanence - children entering foster care will be reunited with family or placed in a new permanent home as quickly as possible. The third goal is well-being - the educational, health, and overall well-being of children in foster care or receiving Child Protective Services In-Home Services will be enhanced. Federal, state, and local policy dictate that Child Welfare seeks to accomplish these three goals by supporting and strengthening families. We are currently seeking a Child Protective Services (CPS) Supervisor with primary job duties include the following: leading, guiding, training staff with limited Child Welfare experience as well as seasoned social workers, and working alongside team members until the work is done Essential Functions: Identifying ways to assist workers with keeping up with the many demands in Child Welfare, including, but not limited to: paperwork, training, compliance with statutes, state and county policies, and protocols, etc. while keeping up with an abundance of mandated paper work and training Supervising several Child Protective Services staff members and working with them after-hours if necessary to ensure tasks are completed Providing oversight and decision making on accepted CPS reports and caseloads Assigning cases of new referrals for service Consulting with staff on regular service delivery Meeting with staff individually and in a team setting to make case decisions and assess families progress per policy and state law Participating in case decision meetings and assisting staff in the development of findings to support the filing of petitions and helping prepare staff for testifying in the Juvenile Court Conducting interviews with staff to review their direct interventions with families and their documentation Participating in CFTs and reviewing safety plans, as well as assessing progress on the service agreements and reviewing the safety of families Discussing and reviewing documentation of cases Jointly reviewing status of cases leading up to case closure consistent with standards Supervising other teams in the absence of their assigned supervisor, including working after normal work hours in the field as needed Serving as a liaison to other community agencies, including Juvenile Court Helping to develop resources for use of families and taking the lead to collaborate with other Human Services sections to ensure integrated service delivery for the client families Facilitating the development of policy and protocols related to Child Protective Services Managing other Child Welfare functions as assigned About Our Team The Wake County Department of Social Services team is grounded in a deep commitment to connection, compassion, and community. The Basics (Required Education and Experience) Masters degree in Social Work (MSW) Three years experience in counseling or social work Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record Equivalent education and experience are accepted Please include ALL prior work experience on your application and resume.
