Description:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in early childhood education, child and youth services, recreation, or related field.
  • Have 3 years practical experience working with children, preferably in a supervisory role.
  • Have one year of supervisory experience in a childcare setting.
  • Have one year experience working in a licensed daycare or licensed afterschool care program.
  • Experience working with individuals with special needs an asset.
  • Valid B.C. Driver’s License.
  • Canadian Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR C or equivalent by an authorized agency.
  • A Clear Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Persons.
  • Computer experience including Microsoft Word and Excel, PerfectMind, Meta or other recreation registration program and a publishing program.
  • High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development – PCHD.
  • High Five Quest 1 & 2 Certification.
  • YMCA Responsible Adult Course.

Responsibilities:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The incumbent shall be responsible for the safe and accessible delivery and administration of children and youth recreation programs as well as inclusion programming for the City of Williams Lake and area. The successful candidate must be available to work evenings, and weekends as required.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans and implements recreation programs related to children & youth, including recreation day programs, afterschool and weekly recreation activities, licensed afterschool care and licensed day camps.
  • Plans, implements and evaluates special event programs for families with the Adult Recreation Program Coordinator on a monthly basis.
  • Assists with the hiring, orientation, training, scheduling, coaching, and development of child and youth employees and volunteers.
  • Supervises staff including Program Instructors, Recreation Attendants, Contract Instructors, and volunteers.
  • Research and monitors trends, community demographics, participation levels, customer requests and customer satisfaction results for program development.
  • Enters all program information and data requirements into recreation registration software, books facilities and ensures appropriate equipment is ready for use.
  • Assists the Director of Community Services and the Events & Marketing Coordinator to advertise & promote all programs and services for children and youth programs and family special events.
  • Responsible for training recreation staff relating to the needs of inclusion participants.
  • Meets with parents/guardians to create integration plan for all inclusion participants and behavioral agreements as necessary, supports the recreation team to ensure successful integration.
  • Maintains ongoing communication with program, facility, and customer service staff to maintain a high level of team efficiency. Including submitting facility bookings both internally and with external parties.
  • Maintains program records, daily-monthly-annually and/or session checklists, attendance, statistics collection and creates reports as required.
  • Attends and supports community events and initiatives to increase active lifestyles, social interaction and related awareness of the Community Services Department.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Community Services to prepare and administer children and youth recreation programs and prepare budgets and anticipate new programs.
  • Complies with all health and safety practices and the Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee.
  • Compiles grant applications from the Federal and Provincial Governments such as Family Day, Canada Summer Jobs, and licensing grants, while exploring additional funding sources including local sponsorship.
  • Actively participates on the Coordinator team for the overall management of the Community Services Department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with department objectives.
