Description
The Child and Youth Worker (CYW) functions as a valuable member of the interdisciplinary team and provides care to children and youth with complex mental health issues primarily within the acute, inpatient setting. Solid knowledge and skills include, but are not limited to establishment of effective therapeutic relationships, utilization of developmentally appropriate approaches, assessment of mental status, crisis intervention, and implementation and evaluation of various therapeutic interventions. The CYW offers support, education, and coaching to children, youth and their families. Diploma in Child and Youth Counseling or Degree in Child and Youth Care Current full Professional Certified membership with the Ontario Association of Child and Youth Counselors (OACYC) preferred Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) preferred A minimum of two (2) years child and youth mental health inpatient experience Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and evaluating individual and group programming Demonstrates OACYC Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics Demonstrated skill in effective crisis management Demonstrated knowledge and skill in Child and youth mental health services Demonstrated knowledge in developmental psychology and psychopathology Demonstrated knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Substitute Decisions Act, Health Care Consent Act, and Personal Health Information Protection Act Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and establish therapeutic relationships with clients and team members Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning Evidence of self-motivation, enthusiasm, and flexibility
