SUMMARY

This is an exciting time to join the Early Learning Campus as we grow & expand! The Childcare Assistant Cook/Food Service Technician position plays a vital role in ensuring high nutritional standards at our state-of-the-art kitchen, serving children aged 6 weeks to 5 years.
In collaboration with the Lead Cook, the Assistant Cook/Food Service Technician assists with all aspects of food service, clean-up, and site sanitation, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. You will help prepare menu-specified recipes for breakfast, lunch, and snacks that meet the diverse nutritional needs of our young learners in a nurturing and inclusive environment. In the absence of the Childcare Food Specialist, you’ll take the lead in food preparation, service, and clean-up, ensuring seamless operations.
Additionally, this position will contribute to maintaining a safe and hygienic space through light housekeeping duties such as laundry, dishwashing, and sanitizing children’s areas and toys, all while supporting the Early Learning Campus’s commitment to excellence in caring for the children of college students and staff.
Part-time hours vary depending on the semester. All schedules are Monday-Friday, TBD between 7:45am-5:00pm $17.67-20.14

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent working experience. *Experience used as an equivalent of an educational requirement is in addition to any experience required by the position.
  • One (1) year work experience in quantity food service setting.
  • First Aid/CPR certification required within three (3) months of hire.
  • Ability to achieve ServSafe certification within six (6) months of hire.

Responsibilities

Essential Responsibilities:

  • With Childcare Food Specialist prepares assigned meals in accordance with menu guidelines, child nutritional and cultural needs, and age-specific portion sizes. Prepare foods for special events for the center, as assigned. Advocates for and supports family style dining in classrooms. Takes lead in food prep in the absence of Childcare Food Specialist
  • Delivers food and needed service items to classrooms on schedule. Returns leftovers and dishes to kitchen. Cleans dishes and stores foods as required in applicable regulations.
  • Maintains quantity and conditions of supplies and equipment. Reports faulty equipment to the Childcare Food Specialist and Assistant Manager
  • Upholds the safety and physical wellbeing of all enrolled children by ensuring all food service areas are safe, clean, culturally appropriate. Meets and maintains compliance with all regulatory requirements including State Licensing Requirements, City Accreditation Standards, USDA Food
  • Program Regulations, Wisconsin Early Learning Standards, and Madison College Policies
  • With Childcare Food Specialist maintains prompt, accurate records on menus, production sheets, inventory lists, sanitation records, as assigned. Checks food deliveries for accuracy, safety, and quality and immediately reports any concerns or discrepancies, as assigned.
  • Promotes family involvement and education by contributing to program newsletters, as assigned, and supporting training for student-staff nutrition aides.
  • As assigned, supports the overall success and safety of the center through such light housekeeping duties as laundry and sanitizing classroom toys/materials.
  • Participates in required staff meetings and maintains a minimum of 4hours eligible continuing education annually. Maintains the professional competence, knowledge, and skills necessary for
