Description
The child care aide will help with various tasks at the upcoming Assumption Community Child Care Center such as preparing and serving meals, monitoring and observing children through daily activities, changing diapers, writing daily reports, recording attendance, engaging in play, assisting to put children to sleep, and creating a safe, positive, and clean classroom environment. Assisting the teachers with the development and implementation of various learning programs will also be within the child care aide job description. I. Hours: Part time staff- anything under 34 hour weeks II. On-Call Duties: As needed, there will be a list for the fairness of staff. Each time a person is called in, they will then be moved to the bottom of the list for next “call in” needs. Requirements: 1) Shall have a high school diploma or equivalency certificate (GED) 2) 18 years or older 3) Previous work experience with children (Preferred) 4) Must be able to stand for long periods of time, squat, kneel, and sit on the floor. Also must be able to see, hear and speak with children and within their environment to maintain responsibility for safety. Be able to lift 10-15 lbs regularly and occasionally up to 50 lbs. Must be comfortable with noise levels moderate to high, being outdoors with varied weather conditions dependent on season and possible exposure to bodily fluids. Skills: Staff shall be able to demonstrate the skill and competence necessary to contribute to each child's physical, intellectual, personal, emotional, and social development. Factors contributing to the attainment of this standard include: 1) Emotional maturity when working with children 2) Cooperation with the purposes and services of the program 3) Respect for children and adults 4) Flexibility, understanding and patience 5) Physical and mental health that do not interfere with child care responsibilities 6) Good personal hygiene 7) Frequent interaction with children 8) Listening skills, availability and responsiveness to children 9) Sensitivity to children's socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds, and individual needs and capabilities 10) Use of positive discipline and guidance techniques 11) Ability to provide an environment in which children can feel comfortable relaxed, happy and involved in play, recreation and other activities 12) Demonstrate skills and competence necessary to assume direct responsibility for child care including: a) Skills to help children meet their developmental and emotional needs; and skills in planning, directing, and conducting programs that meet the children's basic needs.
