Program: SBCS Corporation operates a 24/7 year-round confidential, emergency shelter program for victims of domestic violence and their children. Services include 24-hour emergency shelter, food, transportation, 24-hour crisis hotline, psychological support and peer counseling, referrals to community resources, and community education and outreach. RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator, the Childcare Provider shall be responsible for providing services and support for women who have experienced domestic violence and their children. Services will be consistent with the agency’s goals, objectives, mission and style. DUTIES: Provide nurturing, compassionate, developmentally appropriate, and supportive care to children. Care for and actively supervise children during childcare hours. Be aware of children(s) special circumstances (e.g., health concerns, peak stress time, emotional difficulties…etc.) Maintain contact with the children’s parents and contact them in the case of an emergency. Plan and facilitate educational age-appropriate activities for children (infants, toddlers, pre-school age and school age children) Communicate with parents about the behavior of their children. Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the childcare room. As a mandated reporter, should be able to report any suspicion of child abuse or neglect to the relevant authorities as required by law. Ensure that sign-in sheets are correctly maintained and submitted to the Program Coordinator in a timely fashion. Attend and actively participate in Team meetings and trainings as required. Attend all agency required meetings and trainings. Ability to communicate critical incidents to supervisor. As other duties assigned. Requirements High school diploma, GED and 1 year of experience in a similar position. Experience working with children in a daycare or other childcare related setting. Knowledge of child development. Knowledge of domestic violence is preferred. Bilingual — English and Spanish required. Must be able to read and write English. Ability to work with a diverse population, possess cultural sensitivity, and maintain appropriate boundaries with clients. CPR/First Aid certification required within 30 days of hire. Condition of Employment Employment may be conditioned upon satisfactory completion of certain background clearances which may include a Department of Justice criminal background check requiring my fingerprints (Live Scan), screening through the National Sex Offender Public Website, drug test, tuberculosis (TB) test, and such additional clearances as may be required under the program. Candidates/employees who have received a conditional offer of employment will be required to undergo testing for controlled substances, in accordance with the County of San Diego's drug and alcohol policy and the federal Controlled Substances Act. Physical Demands: Mentally and emotionally: Ability to work under deadlines, various projects and dealing with clients in crisis and difficult situations. Must be able to remain in a stationary position during shift. Moves throughout the building. Moves, raises, or lowers (includes upward pulling) an object or equipment up to 50 lbs. Transports an object, from 20 to 50 lbs. across the facility, for various needs. Ability to exert force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force. Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when ascending, descending, traversing.
