COMPANY OVERVIEW

Fresh Start Independence Project was founded in 2012 and currently offers semi-independent supported accommodation to vulnerable 16 to 18-year-olds throughout the Greater Manchester area. We support children and young people from various backgrounds and are dedicated to supporting young people facing challenges as they transition to independence. Our mission is to empower youth through tailored guidance and intervention strategies, fostering resilience and self-esteem with an aim to support our young people in their individual journeys.

SUMMARY

We are seeking a knowledgable and experienced Registered Manager to lead and manage a residential children’s home, ensuring the highest standards of care, safety, and support for children and young people. The manager will be responsible for creating a nurturing and therapeutic environment that promotes positive outcomes, especially for children with complex needs and challenging behaviours.
This home will be Fresh Start Independence Project’s first Registered Children’s Home and we would like for the Registered Manger to play a key role in the initial service set up and assembling a highly skilled team of support workers to offer trauma-informed and child-centred care for our young residents.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
  • Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with children and young people in residential care.
  • Good knowledge of childcare legislation and safeguarding.
  • Experience working with children who present challenging behaviours.
  • Supervisory or managerial experience in a care setting.
  • Full UK driving licence.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • High level of emotional resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Skilled in managing and de-escalating challenging behaviours.
  • Commitment to trauma-informed and child-centred care.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
    Please note that the position will be permanent, full-time at 40 hours per week but with an initial phase into the role as the service is set up and Ofsted registration completed.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the home operates in full compliance with Ofsted regulations, Children’s Homes Regulations, and Quality Standards.
  • Develop and implement individualised care plans that support emotional, behavioural, and developmental needs.
  • Promote and uphold safeguarding and child protection practices at all times.
  • Manage incidents involving challenging behaviour with professionalism and in line with behaviour management policies.
  • Provide strong leadership to the staff team, fostering a culture of empathy, consistency, and high standards.
  • Oversee recruitment, training, supervision, and performance management of staff.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure all documentation meets regulatory standards.
  • Liaise effectively with external professionals, families, and agencies to support the holistic development of each child.
  • Monitor and manage budgets and resources efficiently.
