Key responsibilities

  • Provide effective leadership, governance, and oversight in line with the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the Quality Standards.
  • Ensure high-quality, trauma-informed care; robust care planning, risk management, and placement stability.
  • Lead on safeguarding (including DSL responsibilities), safer recruitment, and a strong speak-up culture.
  • Drive Ofsted readiness: Reg 44/45, notifications, action plans, and continuous improvement.
  • Recruit, supervise, coach, and develop staff; manage rotas, on-call, and performance.
  • Champion multi-agency working with social care, education, health, and families; amplify children’s voice and participation.
  • Manage budgets, KPIs, occupancy, and commissioning relationships.
  • If dual registration is agreed, safely scale leadership and governance across both homes.

About you (essential)

  • Qualification: Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare (England) (or equivalent) and eligibility to register with Ofsted.
  • Experience: Significant leadership experience in children’s residential care with a track record of Good/Outstanding outcomes (or a strong Deputy ready to step up with clear evidence of impact).
  • Practice: Skilled in trauma-informed approaches for children with EBD/SEMH/complex needs; confident in risk assessment and behaviour support.
  • Compliance: Deep knowledge of the Regulations, Quality Standards, Reg 44/45, safeguarding, and inspection frameworks.
  • Leadership: Proven team-builder and coach; resilient, reflective, and outcomes-focused.
  • Operational: Competent with budgets, data/KPIs, occupancy, and commissioner engagement.
  • Other: Full UK driving licence; ability to participate in an on-call rota. Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain).

Pay: £50,000.00-£80,000.00 per year
