CHURCH FACILITY AND MAINTENANCE COORDINATOR

Purpose: This full-time position is charged with providing and maintaining a safe, clean, attractive, and well-maintained facility to enhance the ministry of the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown.
Accountability: The Facility and Maintenance Coordinator is employed by and responsible to the Session. The coordinator is supervised by the Pastor/Head of Staff and works with the Building, Equipment, and Grounds Committee. The coordinator shall report all situations that are unsafe or that threaten the health and safety of persons/property, or grounds to the Pastor/Head of Staff. The coordinator will also interact with all governmental agencies having jurisdiction to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and requirements.

Responsibilities: These shall include, but are not limited to, the following. Some of these activities may be shared with the custodian and work groups as organized by the Building, Equipment, and Grounds committee, or other volunteers.

  • Supervise all members of the custodial staff.
  • In consultation with the Building, Equipment, and Grounds Committee and Pastor, establish work to be done by the custodial staff.
  • Establish work schedules for custodians for church programs and other events to be held at the church.
  • Provide for necessary maintenance, repair, or replacement of equipment.
  • Schedule and provide oversight to outside vendors and contractors performing activities on church property, including security personnel.
  • Arrange for the physical set-up required for all programs held in the church building.
  • Ensure that maintenance checks on all systems are done regularly, including monitoring alarm and security systems.
  • Arrange for the ordering of all supplies necessary for the cleaning and maintenance of the church’s facilities and property.
  • Provide for exterior maintenance, including snow and ice removal, and lawn and garden maintenance.
  • Report concerns and problems regarding tenants to the Pastor and the Building, Equipment, and Grounds Committee.
  • Assist the Building, Equipment, and Grounds Committee in the formation and monitoring of the Annual Church Budget for maintenance and repair.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Relationships: The Coordinator is a member of the Support Staff and is expected to work collegially and respectfully with all staff members. The Coordinator will work closely with the Pastor in fulfilling their responsibilities. The Coordinator works closely with the Building, Equipment, and Grounds Committee in the discharge of duties as outlined.
Evaluation: A performance review will be conducted annually by the Head of Staff and reviewed by the Personnel Committee. It will involve discussion of the previous year’s work with input from committees and groups with whom this person has worked, plans for the coming year’s work, the adequacy of compensation and/or reimbursements, and other subjects as the need arises.
As a requirement of employment, all employees must sign “First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown Life Together in the Community of Faith: Standards of Ethical Conduct for Employees” and the “Confidentiality Covenant”. Employees are expected to live by these standards and this covenant while they are employed by the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown. Failure to do so may lead to termination of employment.
