JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a skilled Installation and Commissioning Engineer to join our team. This role involves working with Ciena optical systems, including equipment such as the Ciena 6500 Packet-Optical Platform, Ciena Waveserver Ai, and Ciena 8700 Packetwave Platform. You will be responsible for ensuring their successful installation, commissioning, testing, and integration into telecommunications networks. The ideal candidate will have expertise in optical transmission systems and a strong technical background in network technologies.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

• Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, or related fields
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in optical transmission systems.

• Hands-on experience with Ciena platforms such as 6500 P-OTP, Waveserver, and 8700 Packetwave Platform.

  Technical Expertise:

• Strong knowledge of DWDM, CWDM, and OTN technologies.

• Familiarity with Ciena management systems like Blue Planet MCP and One Control.
• Proficiency in using test tools (OTDR, spectrum analyzers, BER testers).

• Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., Ciena Certified Specialist) are highly preferred.

  Soft Skills:

• Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work under pressure and adapt to fast-paced project environments.

1. Installation and Setup:

• Perform physical installation of Ciena equipment such as the 6500 Packet-Optical Platform, Waveserver Ai, and 8700 Packetwave Platform, including rack mounting, cabling, and power connections.

• Configure hardware and software settings to meet project and network requirements.

  1. Commissioning and Testing:

• Perform commissioning, acceptance testing, and troubleshooting of Ciena optical systems.

• Conduct system testing using tools like OneControl Unified Management System, OTDR, and spectrum analyzers to validate optical performance.

• Validate system features, including ROADM configurations, network synchronization, and service delivery.

  1. Integration and Support:

• Integrate optical systems into existing network architectures using equipment like Ciena 3900 Series Service Delivery Switches and Ciena 6500 Coherent Optical Modems.

• Work closely with customers and design teams to implement end-to-end solutions.

  1. Documentation and Reporting:

• Prepare and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including site reports, test results, commissioning procedures, and diagrams.

  1. Customer Interaction:

• Provide customer training on equipment like Ciena Waveserver Ai and 6500 P-OTP.

• Act as a point of contact for technical support during installation and post-commissioning phases.

  1. Compliance and Safety:

• Adhere to safety protocols and ensure compliance with industry standards during all phases of work.
