Description The full-time Circulations Specialist will operate the Bella Vista Public Library into the evening hours and will be expected to work a flexible schedule as needed. The person in this role will act as the Circulation Lead in the absence of the Circulation Manager. Anticipated schedule for this position will be Monday - Thursday, ten (10) hours daily, however hours may vary based on library needs. Please include cover letter with your application. Responsibilities include but will not be limited to: Opens and/or closes the library. Performs circulation duties, including checking items in and out, assist patrons with reserves and new library card applications, retrieves patron requests from shelves, assist patrons with using the integrated library system catalog, etc. Shelves items in absence of library volunteers. Assists with checking patron accounts for accuracy. Provides patron assistance with computers, printer, and tech support for library services. Assists patrons with using the integrated library system catalog. Assists with updating and maintaining all circulation procedures. Will act as lead staff in the evenings. Assists with library volunteers. May involve training in all volunteer areas. Assists with maintaining the general library emails including renewal of library cards. Assists with room booking system, ensuring proper procedures in the absence of the P.R. & Events Coordinator. Assist with interlibrary loans. Operates and assists with managing the Circulation Desk. Resolves customer service issues with patrons. Acts as primary contact for printer and copier needs. Assists with materials recovery including damaged items, overdue phone calls, and lost letters. Monitors janitor service and building cleanliness, reporting issues to the Circulation Manager. Restocks/refills janitor supplies. Assists with monitoring library supplies, including general office and janitorial. Complies with all library policies and procedures. Will acquire working knowledge of regulations and procedures pertaining to library responsibilities. Other duties as assigned. Requirements SKILLS & ABILITIES: Excellent writing, technical/computer and organizational skills. Attentiveness to safety and security of library patrons. Ability to listen to the public with understanding and respond in a mature manner. Ability to work independently, take initiative, and work cooperatively on a team. Understanding of confidentiality in patron records. Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude towards co-workers, volunteers and patrons. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. College credits working towards a Library degree a plus. At least one year (1) of recent experience in a public library or similar setting working with the public. Excellent computer skills. Demonstrated working knowledge of library principles and practices. Superior customer service skills. Knowledge of compliance and law in a public library preferred. Must be able to pass drug test and background screening.
