City Beach Maintenance Worker - Part Time, Seasonal    Summary: Under the supervision of the Park Supervisor or Designee, performs a variety of beach maintenance, repair, and cleaning tasks.  Duties often require physical strength and effort, and a relatively high level of complexity and responsibility.  Operates clean-up equipment: various hand and power tools relative to small repair and maintenance responsibilities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following   * Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties the maintenance and clean-up of the beach areas and their facilities.  Involves the use of equipment such as: surf rake, beach tractor, attachments, 4x4 ATV, riding mower, 1-ton dump operation, and pickup trucks. * Grooms beaches and surrounding areas, may involve some sand distribution and leveling involving the use of equipment such as the beach tractor, bucket, and surf rake. * At times, mowing with not only a push mower, but a riding mower, along with trimming grass, tree limbs, and shrubs, in beach areas, using various hand tools, and mowers (this excludes the operation of chain saws). * Performs custodial duties in and around public restrooms, such as replenishment of supplies, collection, and hauling garbage. * Utilized various basic carpentry and mechanical skills in the construction of new and existing park buildings and facilities for purposes of restoration and maintenance, such as lock and window repair, painting, wooden bollard replacement, etc. * Picks up litter from right-of-way in and around beach areas and empties trash cans.  * Performs minor repair and routine maintenance on equipment, involving gassing, greasing, oils, checking levels, belts, and basic functions of the units, and reports to the DPW mechanic supervisor any issues for repair.  Other duties are assigned periodically. * May operate a vehicle, running errands, obtaining or delivering various supplies and/or materials (however, does not have any purchasing authorities).  Purchase requests must go through your supervisor.  * May perform other related maintenance duties on an as-needed basis. * Installs and removes snow fence, decorative trash cans, safety signs, buoys, donor boards, ADA mats, and decking with tractor, ATV, small dump truck, and trailer.  Volleyball post delivery and storage will also be a part of your duties (installation & removal is completed by a partnership). * Performs other related duties as assigned. Ability to perform these operations using units of United States currency and weight, measurements, volume, and distance. * Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions, via verbal, written, or texted information. * Computer Skills: No software skills needed; however, researching information on your cell phone is important. Use of modern technology, apps, and wayfinding is also important. * Certificates and Licenses: None (Tractor operations are limited to Park Property and City Roads; no State Roads or Highways are permitted). Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  * While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions.  * The employee may work near moving mechanical parts or with vibration equipment.  * The employee is occasionally exposed to equipment fumes. * The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud, depending on the work assigned.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.  The employee is frequently required to walk, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must frequently lift and or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.
