City Beach Lead Worker (Seasonal) Department: Department of Public Works / Parks Division Location: Zone 5 – Drake Elliot Park / Beach Operations Reports To: Park Supervisor Status: Seasonal (Variable Hours; May include weekends/holidays) Pay Rate: $19.00 an hour Position Summary The Parks Lead Worker serves as the primary on-site coordinator for seasonal maintenance and operations at Drake Elliot Park. This role is a "working lead" position, responsible for supervising a crew of approximately 12 employees to ensure the highest standards of park cleanliness, safety, and visitor experience. The Lead Worker acts as a critical link between field staff and the Park Supervisor, ensuring daily goals are met with professional oversight. Key Responsibilities 1. Operational Oversight & Accountability Daily Deployment: Coordinate the morning check-in/out process at Zone 5; assign daily tasks to crew members based on the Supervisor’s weekly goals. Quality Control: Conduct regular inspections of beach areas, restrooms, and park grounds to ensure maintenance standards are met or exceeded. On-Site Supervision: Monitor crew performance and productivity in the field, providing immediate correction or guidance to ensure efficient operations. Resource Management: Manage the use and basic daily maintenance of specialized equipment, including golf carts and beach maintenance tools. 2. Leadership & Mentorship Staff Retainment: Foster a professional and positive work environment to encourage the retention of high-quality seasonal employees. Internal Growth: Assist in the on-the-job training of new hires, helping them acclimate to departmental policies and safety standards. Conflict Resolution: Address minor staff or visitor issues on-site, escalating significant personnel or safety concerns to the Park Supervisor or Park Ranger as needed. 3. Administrative & Strategic Support Reporting: Maintain daily logs of completed work and report any equipment failures or facility damage immediately. Operational Vision: Assist the Park Supervisor in implementing a "clear vision" for the season, adapting to schedule changes (such as 4-10 shifts) while maintaining constant site coverage. Budgetary Awareness: Support cost-saving initiatives, such as optimizing vehicle/equipment use and reducing unnecessary travel. Qualifications Experience: Minimum of 2 seasons in park maintenance, landscaping, or a related field. Prior experience in a leadership or "crew leader" capacity is highly preferred. Education: High school diploma or equivalent; coursework in outdoor recreation or environmental science is a plus. Skills: Strong communication skills; ability to motivate a diverse team; proficiency in using mobile reporting or time-clock systems. Requirements: Must possess a valid Driver’s License and have the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including weekends and holidays. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, and perform manual labor for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Frequent operation of light utility vehicles (golf carts).
