Description

Summary An established expert in concrete construction and cost estimating who performs the duties below. A Professional Engineer license is highly preferred, and may be substituted for less experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Reviews data to determine material and labor requirements and prepares itemized lists.
Computes cost factors and prepares estimates used for management purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work; preparing bids; selecting vendors or subcontractors; and determining cost effectiveness.
Conducts special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or effect cost reductions.
Consults with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
Interfaces with other individuals in the organization to obtain support and commitment to the cost estimates.
Organizes and manages a centralized cost estimating database and a formal process to support cost estimating to ensure historical data is utilized.
Analyzes completed projects to compare estimated costs to actual costs and determine the reason for any discrepancies.
Provides improvement recommendations to cost estimating procedures to reduce future discrepancies between estimated and actual costs.
Identifies cost trends to assist management in cost reduction and process improvement efforts.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and 10 years relevant experience, or Professional Engineer’s license for structural engineering in lieu of experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

COMPUTER SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Vista by Viewpoint Accounting software; Salesforce Contact Management systems; MS Project, ICE Project Management software; MS Office.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Some travel may be required.
