Description

Civil Construction Engineer (Superintendent / CA) – Leadership Pathway

About our client

Our client is a Brisbane engineering consultancy with 55 years behind them and no plans to slow down. Employee-owned, which means the people doing the work also have a stake in how it's done — not a distant head office calling the shots.

They've built a genuine reputation across civil and structural work over more than five decades, and they're now investing in something new: a dedicated construction management capability, built from the ground up.

About the role

This is a build-it-yourself opportunity, and it's genuinely a step up rather than a sideways move. You'll be the first person into a newly forming construction management team, taking on the superintendent role across subdivision and urban development sites — and over the next couple of years, if you're up for it, growing into the person who leads that team.

This isn't a site engineer role sitting inside a contractor. You'll be on the client side, running stage inspections largely unsupervised — stormwater, reinforcement, road proof rolls, water and sewer pre-sales — while owning the superintendent function: assessing progress claims, variation claims and extensions of time, and reviewing QA data post-construction. There's experienced backup from the senior contracts team while you build out the more complex dispute-management side, but the day-to-day inspection and assessment work is yours to run.

No more 6.30am pre-starts as standard. It's a 37½ hour week, and you'll manage your own day across your sites.

What you'll be doing

  • Running construction and stage inspections across urban development and subdivision sites, largely unsupervised
  • Acting as superintendent: assessing progress claims, variation claims and extensions of time
  • Reviewing QA data post-construction and liaising with councils and water authorities through delivery
  • Working closely with the contracts team to build your commercial and dispute-management skills
  • Helping shape a construction team that will grow under your lead over the next few years

Skills and experience

This role suits a few different backgrounds — what matters most is that you've operated on the client/consultancy side of construction, not purely as a contractor's site engineer:

  • Bachelor-qualified civil engineer
  • Ideal: 3–5 years in a construction supervision or contract administration (superintendent) role within an engineering consultancy, on urban development or subdivision projects
  • Also considered: more extensive experience (5+ years) as a project engineer or contracts-side lead with a contractor, where you've moved beyond site supervision into managing the commercial and contractual side of delivery
  • Also considered: development engineers currently inside a SEQ council team, ready to trade the bureaucracy for a more influential, hands-on consulting role
  • Comfortable assessing progress claims, variations and extensions of time — not just inspecting works
  • Working knowledge of SEQ local council development regulations

What's in it for you

  • A genuine leadership pathway — this role is designed to grow into managing a construction team within a few years
  • 37½ hour week, no standard 6.30am pre-starts, and control over your own schedule across sites
  • The backing of an established, employee-owned consultancy with 55 years of runway behind it
  • The chance to build something — this team doesn't exist yet, and you'd be shaping it

How to apply

Send through your CV and we'll be in touch to talk through the detail — including where this role could take you over the next few years.
