ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Maitland City Council’s Pathways program is a fantastic way to kick-start your career and gain professional experience in an industry you are passionate about!
Commencing in January 2026, for a period of two years, we are looking for a Civil Design Officer Trainee to join our organisation.
In this role, you will work within our Design team to assist with the delivery of civil engineering design projects, provide accurate and efficient design documentation and advice for projects and works which are compliant with relevant standards, legislation, and budgets. A key part of your role will be to prepare concept and detailed design plans including use of 2D & 3D modelling for minor/simple civil infrastructure projects.

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role you will possess:

  • Eligibility to complete a traineeship (please read role charter to make sure you are eligible before applying)
  • Genuine interest in civil design and engineering
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to learn and demonstrated initiative
  • Provisional or full licence by the commencement of employment (January 2026).

This role will be suitable for those who have recently completed high school, as well as any candidates who may be looking for a change of career and an opportunity to gain experience in local government!
