CIVIL ENGINEER DRAFTSPERSON
Are you ready to bring technical precision and creative problem-solving to the heart of Queensland’s growing steel structure industry?
Lockyer Sheds is a leading designer and builder of custom steel sheds, garages, rural buildings, and light industrial structures across the Lockyer Valley and beyond. With more than 250+ contracts signed in the past year, our commitment to accuracy, structural integrity, and customer satisfaction continues to set us apart.
We are now seeking a Civil Engineering Draftsperson to join our expanding team and help translate engineering concepts and site realities into accurate, buildable technical drawings that drive every stage of our projects from design through fabrication to installation.
ABOUT US
At Lockyer Sheds, we pride ourselves on delivering high quality, tailored steel structures for clients across residential, rural, and industrial sectors. Our experienced team manages everything from concept to construction, including council approvals, design, fabrication, and installation.
As our projects become increasingly custom and technically complex, we’re investing in the right people to help maintain our standards and improve efficiency. This is your opportunity to be part of a trusted, innovative, and regionally rooted company known for its commitment to quality craftsmanship.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:
· A Diploma or higher qualification in Civil/Structural Engineering, Civil Construction Design, Drafting, or a related field.
· Proven drafting experience in structural steel, building, or shed construction.
· Strong proficiency in CAD software; experience with roll-form systems such as Scottsdale is desirable, and experience with AutoCAD and Revit is also beneficial.
· Ability to interpret engineering drawings, building codes, and compliance requirements.
· Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
· Strong communication skills to liaise with engineers, site supervisors, and other stakeholders.
· A proactive, solution-focused approach to technical challenges.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Civil Engineering Draftsperson, you will play a pivotal role in producing accurate 2D and 3D CAD drawings, site plans, and workshop documentation for all types of steel structures including sheds, rural buildings, granny flats, and habitable steel stud frame structures.
Your work will ensure that our fabrication and on-site teams have the clear, practical, and precise plans they need to execute projects right the first time. You will collaborate closely with engineers, site supervisors, and production staff to ensure drawings align with engineering requirements, Australian building codes, and actual site conditions.
AS A PART OF THIS ROLE YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
· Produce accurate CAD drawings, site layouts, and detailed workshop documentation for steel structures.
· Generate machine-ready Scottsdale software files for in-house roll-form manufacturing of custom steel stud frames.
· Interpret engineering markups, site measurements, and design briefs to deliver clean, buildable plans.
· Coordinate with engineering, fabrication, and installation teams to ensure designs are practical and compliant.
· Provide technical support during the quoting and project planning stages.
· Update and refine drawings to reflect changes from site inspections, client feedback, or engineering revisions.
· Assist in identifying and mitigating design risks before fabrication begins.
