Description

Design & Engineering * Prepare and review civil engineering designs, drawings, and specifications for infrastructure projects including landfills, waste transfer stations, access roads, drainage systems, and civil structures * Conduct feasibility studies, site investigations, and geotechnical assessments * Develop Bills of Quantities (BoQ) and cost estimates for civil works * Review and approve contractor designs and shop drawings * Ensure all designs comply with applicable national and international engineering standards (e.g. Eurocodes, BS standards, local codes) Project Management & Site Supervision * Supervise civil construction works on site, ensuring compliance with approved designs, specifications, and quality standards * Monitor project progress against programme; identify delays and implement corrective measures * Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure smooth project execution * Conduct regular site inspections and maintain site records, inspection logs, and progress reports * Manage project risks and prepare mitigation plans Regulatory & Environmental Compliance * Ensure civil works comply with applicable statutory and regulatory requirements in each operating country * Coordinate the preparation and submission of environmental and social impact assessments (ESIA) and related permitting documentation * Liaise with government agencies, local authorities, and environmental regulators on project approvals and compliance * Ensure all construction activities adhere to applicable environmental, health, and safety standards Contract & Cost Management * Support the management of civil works contracts, including reviewing contractor claims, variations, and payment certificates * Monitor project budgets and expenditure; flag variances and recommend cost control measures * Review and evaluate tenders for civil works; provide technical input to procurement evaluations Reporting & Documentation * Prepare regular technical progress reports for the Head of Projects * Maintain accurate project documentation including as-built drawings, inspection records, and handover documents * Contribute to lessons-learned reviews and technical knowledge management * Any other duties as assigned by the Head of Projects / Technical Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline * Registration with a recognised engineering professional body (e.g. EBK – Engineers Board of Kenya, Ghana Institution of Engineering, or equivalent in-country body) required or in progress * Postgraduate qualification (MSc Civil Engineering, Project Management) is an advantage Experience * Minimum of 5–8 years of experience in civil engineering, with at least 3 years in a project delivery or site supervision role * Experience on infrastructure projects including landfills, waste facilities, roads, drainage, or similar civil works * International or multi-country project experience preferred * Experience in Africa or developing country infrastructure contexts is an advantage Technical Skills * Proficiency in civil engineering design software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or equivalent) * Strong knowledge of structural analysis, drainage design, geotechnical principles, and construction methodologies * Ability to prepare and review BoQs, technical specifications, and contract documents * Familiarity with FIDIC or similar contract frameworks Core Competencies * Strong technical problem-solving and analytical skills * Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously * Good communication and stakeholder management skills * Willingness to work on site in different countries as required * Commitment to quality, safety, and environmental stewardship
