Our Opportunity As part of our continued growth in Australia, HDR is currently seeking a Civil Highways Engineer at intermediate to senior level to contribute to the technical delivery on a diverse range of challenging infrastructure projects. Reporting directly to the Highways Team Leader, this role will suit an engineer who enjoys contributing to project delivery and is looking to further develop their leadership capability within a growing team. Based in Brisbane, this role offers the opportunity to contribute across a wide range of roads and highways projects. You will play a key role in coordinating design activities, supporting or providing technical leadership within project teams, and working closely with clients and stakeholders. There will be opportunities to take on increased responsibilities, including stepping into a Design Manager capacity when required. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams across HDR, contributing to the continued growth, capability and culture of our transport group. Key Responsibilities: Contribute to the delivery of transport infrastructure projects across Queensland, applying appropriate engineering judgement based on experience level. Prepare and review design outputs and solutions. Including drawings, calculations, and technical specifications. Undertake and/or oversee the preparation of technical reports and construction documentation. Work closely with clients, project managers and internal teams to achieve successful project outcomes. Assist with or lead aspects of project coordination, including progress reporting, work recording, quality assurance, and risk management. Mentor and support junior engineers, fostering technical development. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including traffic, drainage, pavements, structures, and utilities to ensure integrated outcomes. Contribute to safety and quality leadership aligned with HDR’s “Drive to Zero” initiative. Support HDR’s inclusive, collaborative culture and represent the business at technical forums where appropriate. About You: Typically, a minimum of 4-7+ years’ professional experience in civil engineering, focusing on highways and roads. Experience in the Queensland transport market is advantageous. Exposure to project delivery – including technical, commercial and administrative aspects is advantageous. Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within project teams. Proficiency in design software such as 12D, OpenRoads and Microstation. Broad understanding of highways design elements such as traffic, pavements, drainage, and utilities. Ability to coordinate within a multi-disciplinary environment to ensure integrated design outcomes. Site experience and appreciation of constructability methods for roads is beneficial. Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and drive innovation in design and delivery. Strong communication skills and proactive mindset. Alignment with HDR’s employee-owned culture and values. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related discipline. Working toward, or already holding, Chartered status with Engineers Australia (required for senior-level candidates) Ideally a Chartered member of Engineers Australia and Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ).-CG3 Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent field.
