JOB SUMMARY:

The Substation Site Engineer works within a multi-discipline team to develop efficient and reliable design of site, drainage, and access for Substation facilities. This engineer is accountable for developing substation site related drawings in accordance with customer scope of work and standards, industry standards and best practices, and local zoning development codes ensuring minimal cost, durability, and constructability of site. This engineer will provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to less experienced engineers within the department. This engineer will be responsible for all phases of designing sites for electrical transmission, switching, and distribution substations for the electric utility industry. Tasks may include permitting and supporting construction and establishing substation material and construction standards.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver accurate civil site engineering designs for electrical substation facilities that meet industry and client standards and applicable codes.
  • Perform quality reviews of civil engineering work for both peers/sub-contractors on assigned projects.
  • May act as lead engineer and/or engineer of record (with PE) for projects.
  • Design substation sites to include site plans, storm water management, grading and drainage, retention / detention ponds, access roads, permits, and other site related functions.
  • Prepare bid and construction drawing packages.
  • Review incoming submittals for alignment with design and constructability of methods.
  • May manage the development of project proposals, bid preparation, project schedules, etc.
  • Assist project team during construction on site development issues.
  • Travel to client site as needed.
  • Substation Design: Perform duties associated with all phases of substation design work, including (but not limited to): station sighting, site preparation, physical and electrical facilities, electrical design, structural design, foundation design, and permitting, for station voltages up to 500kV.
  • Project Management: Perform team project management duties and participate on project teams where the team is responsible for project scheduling, cost management, and coordination of all aspects of the project.
  • Standards and Specifications: Prepare and maintain substation material, design and construction specifications and standards, incorporating expertise to address unique local environmental requirements.
  • Permitting: Ensure permitting requirements are met for projects.
  • Communications: Maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels and departments. Ensure smooth operations, productive communications, and effective understanding during all interpersonal contacts. Provide current and accurate information to all requesters, courteously and in a timely manner.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support to other employees and contractors to insure complete and efficient development and construction of substation
