Job Description We’re looking for a motivated Civil Engineering Designer to join our Christchurch Transport team. This is a unique opportunity to work directly alongside an experienced Digital Designer, supporting major aviation, transport, highways, and renewable energy projects across New Zealand. This role is designed as a long-term development opportunity for someone eager to learn, grow, and build a specialist career in transport infrastructure design. You’ll gain hands-on exposure to complex infrastructure projects while receiving direct mentoring and technical guidance within a highly experienced and collaborative team environment. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-focused, technically curious, and excited about developing practical design capability in geometric design and civil infrastructure delivery. Support planning, geometric design and civil drafting activities across transport and aviation projects Work alongside senior engineers and designers on major infrastructure programmes Contribute to aviation, highways, urban infrastructure, and renewable energy projects Assist with technical documentation, modelling, and project coordination Develop technical capability through hands-on mentoring and training Build long-term capability within a nationally recognised digital design team Qualifications The following qualifications and experience are highly desired, but if you don’t tick all the boxes you could still be a perfect fit for this role. A qualification in Civil Engineering, Civil Design, Surveying, or similar Some practical industry experience in infrastructure, surveying, drafting, or civil design Interest in geometric design, planning and transport infrastructure Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn Good communication and collaboration skills Experience with design and modelling software such as Autodesk software suite (AutoCAD, Civil 3D and Infraworks) is beneficial You may be: Early in your engineering or design career A survey technician wanting to move into design A polytechnic graduate looking to grow practical experience An engineering degree is not essential for the right person.
