QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES

  • Post-secondary Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or Engineering Drafting and Design.
  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in drafting and design.
  • Proficiency with Civil 3D including: Feature lines, Surfaces, Alignments and corridors.
  • Familiarity with land surveying principles and practices.
  • Computer training in GIS and AutoCAD.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of current and proposed engineering design and surveying standards.
  • Critical and creative thinker with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Capable of working independently while collaborating in a team environment.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Civil Engineering Drafting Technologist, you will collaborate with engineers and technicians to prepare high-quality engineering design and construction drawings. Your role will focus on plan-profile drawings, pad site designs, access roads, and water reservoirs. Working under the supervision of the Drafting Manager, you will also be responsible for preparing grading designs, as-built drawings, and 3D models using GIS/CAD software on Windows platforms.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Produce accurate and detailed drafting products using AutoCAD Civil 3D and related modeling programs.
  • Analyze and create surfaces with spatial data (LiDAR, terrestrial scanner, and other survey formats).
  • Prepare site grading, road, pipeline corridor, and pad facility designs.
  • Prepare and compare as-built plans with design drawings.
  • Calculate earthwork volumes.
  • Interpret and apply survey plan content.
  • Apply knowledge of layers, line types, and client-specific requirements.
  • Communicate regularly with internal and external clients to ensure optimal product delivery.
  • Produce civil engineering plans, including: Existing site features, plan views showing civil designs, road profiles and cross sections, drafting of typical sections.
  • Create accurate machine grading files for field construction.
