Description

THE OPPORTUNITY:

Tetra Tech is adding a Civil Engineering Technician (NOC 22300) to our Arctic Engineering team based in Whitehorse, Yukon.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Geology, Civil Engineering or Construction Services Diploma from recognized Technical School.
  • Demonstrated practical hands-on design, construction administration and project management expertise (i.e. related office and field experience) are assets but not required.
  • Prior Borehole logging experience for both soils and rock would be considered an asset but is not required.
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, ArcGIS, AutoCAD.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, listening and time management skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Must be willing to travel and work in a field setting away from headquarters.
  • CSA approved Steel Toed Safety Boots required.
Responsibilities
  • Drill core management – checking run markers, labelling, and racking core boxes.
  • Core orientation – docking oriented core, marking orientation, and cut lines, recording QA/QC information on a strip log.
  • Complete meter marks, RQD, magnetic susceptibility, box ends, specific gravity, box tags, photographs, and data entry.
  • Inform the geology and engineering team of any problems with the drill core or with the core processing procedures.
  • Prepare or supervise the preparation of rock, mineral or metal samples and perform physical and chemical laboratory tests.
  • Assisting with the management of technical field and laboratory staff.
  • Management of small to medium quality control and quality assurance projects.
  • Able to provide quality control and quality assurance on a variety of laboratory and field-testing projects.
  • Performing field testing and laboratory testing of soil, aggregate and asphalt concrete including sieve analysis, density testing using nuclear density gauges, preparation of Proctors and Marshall molds, asphalt cement content, sand equivalents, Atterberg limits and moisture content.
  • Preparing of field and testing reports.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.
