JOB DESCRIPTION:

Sid Grabell Contracting is looking to expand our team, seeking an experienced, full time Civil Lead who demonstrates safe work habits and excellent oral and written communication skills. This position requires a keen eye for detail, the ability to build trust-based relationships with customers and staff, and a results-oriented attitude. The Civil Foreman will need to excel at working with a team as well as independently, be detail and task oriented, and very organized.
Applicants should have experience in managing construction projects and teams, along with a solid understanding of industry standards and procedures to ensure the safety of the project.

Working under the supervision of the Project Manager, the Civil Lead will be actively involved in the day-to-day physical work on site while also taking a leadership role in managing the construction site activities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • 3+ years’ relevant experience in construction
  • Must hold a valid license with a clean driver abstract (DZ or AZ considered an asset).
  • Sound knowledge and respect of Health and Safety Act and regulations
  • Ability to operate a forklift, backhoe and other heavy equipment considered an asset

Responsibilities

· Performing physical labour alongside the crew. Work activities include but are not limited to traffic control, excavations, installations of underground utilities including conduit & vaults, concrete work including framing, pouring & finishing for sidewalks and pole bases.
· Leading on-site crews, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard
· Read and interpret underground utility locates & drawings
· Operating hand and power tools
· Ensuring the job site is kept clean and organized
· Completing daily paperwork such as work orders, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and safety inspections
· Maintaining a supervisor’s logbook for each project
· Working outdoors in all weather conditions and capable of handling physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending & kneeling
· Ensure all Ministry of Labour safety standards, procedures and documentation is followed and completed.
