Description

SUMMARY:

The Pipelayer is responsible for laying the pipe for storm, sanitary and water mains and perform a combination of the following: Measure, cut, thread, groove, bend, assemble & install pipe, valves & fittings for storm or sanitation sewers, join pipe sections & related equipment securing into position, grade trenches or culverts, adhere to all safety policies & procedures, communicate effectively with crew & equipment operators

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

  • Read blue prints, specifications, tape measures and technical drawings
  • Operate various hand and power tools
  • Grading trenches and culverts
  • Work with and around underground utilities
  • Fabricate, assemble or disassemble manufacturer’s products
  • Use pipe fitting equipment, pumps and construction equipment
  • Knowledge in construction safety and protocol
  • Basic knowledge in government and environmental rules and regulations

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience installing, fitting pipes or plumbing
  • Possess valid driver’s license
  • Reliable transportation

Responsibilities

THESE TASKS ARE STRICTLY AN OUTLINE OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES; ANY OTHER DUTIES MAY ALSO BE ASSIGNED WHEN REQUIRED.

  1. Install storm, sanitary sewer, water, hydro, telephone, cable, and other pipes according to company and industry standard specifications as directed by foreman including:
    a. Cut, align, position, connect pipes according to specifications
    b. Check slopes for conformance to requirements, using levels or lasers
    c. Cover pipes with earth or other materials
    d. Hand dig trenches to desired or required depths, or using trenching tools
    e. Grade and level trench bases, using tamping machines and hand tools
    f. Lay out pipe routes, following written instructions or blueprints and coordinating layouts with supervisors
    g. Locate existing pipes(gas, water etc. needing repair or replacement, using magnetic, radio indicators or hand tools
    h. Tap and drill holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices
    i. Install and use instruments such as lasers, grade rods and transit levels
  2. Attend and participate in “Toolbox Meetings” and other safety meetings
  3. Adhere to and practice all worksite and company safety policies and procedures
  4. Report any required or preventative maintenance to supervisor
