Service Stream are on the hunt for Civil Trainees to join out Transport team!
About the Role
Service Stream has been awarded the Metropolitan Victorian Road Maintenance Contract (VRMC) - South Central Region by the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) Victoria. We are now delivering routine maintenance and defect rectification works, as well as refurbishment and upgrade projects, under a major long-term contract with the Victorian Government.
We have opportunities for Civil Trainees to join our team in permanent roles based out of our Clayton depot!
Working under the direction of our Supervisors, in crews of 2-4 people, you will be critical in delivering services under this new contract.

About the Role
We’re looking for a motivated and reliable individual to join our road maintenance team in an entry-level capacity. As a Civil Trainee, you’ll support experienced crew members in maintaining roads, bridges, and roadside assets. This is a great opportunity to learn on the job, gain valuable industry experience, and contribute to keeping our road network safe and functional.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with basic road and roadside maintenance tasks under supervision
  • Support rapid response teams during incidents and emergencies
  • Help with routine servicing and minor repairs of pavements, signage, and roadside assets
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Participate in daily pre-start and end-of-shift meetings
  • Learn to use tools and equipment safely and correctly
  • Record simple data and observations as directed

About You

  • Enthusiastic and eager to learn new skills
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • A team player with a positive attitude
  • Good communication and listening skills
  • Physically fit and able to perform manual tasks
  • Basic digital literacy (e.g., using a smartphone or tablet)
  • No prior experience required—just a willingness to learn!

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Driver’s licence (or working towards one)
  • Interest in civil construction or road maintenance
  • White Card (Construction Induction)
  • Any exposure to tools, machinery, or outdoor work
