Description As a workers’ compensation claims intern, you’ll have a chance to build your business acumen by supporting the claims department, making meaningful contributions to the business. The Claims Department manages the lifecycle of workers on the- job injury claims, ensuring compliance with state regulations, coordinating medical treatment, and determining benefit eligibility. This internship offers a unique opportunity to develop analytical skills and gain insights into risk management, and to learn & experience different areas of the insurance industry. Benchmark Administrators’ claims team oversees the investigation and benefit administration of workers’ compensation claims for multiple insurance carriers. We are the primary point of contact for our insureds, injured workers, medical providers, and legal counsel. Within this 12-week internship you will get exposure to many different roles and responsibilities in the claims department including: Claims Intake & Coverage Determination; including entering policies, entering claims, determination of coverage, processing initial information packets and acknowledgement letters. Mailroom Duties; including processing incoming mail, email, and faxes. Medical Management; assisting claims adjusters with coordination of medical appointments and requesting medical information. Clerical Support; including payment of bills, preparing and mailing form letters including acceptance letters, bill denial letters, state forms, etc. Requirements Must be a high school graduate. Demonstrate an interest in learning about the insurance industry. Excellent analytical skills, business acumen, verbal and written communication skills are necessary. Experience with Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint is preferred but not required. Must be a self-starter with proven analytical skills and the ability to operate independently. Excellent organizational and time management skills with commitment to honesty, integrity, and unwavering business ethics. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and external partners.
