CLASS 1 DRIVER

AKV is hiring Class 1 Driver to assist it the operation and maintenance of projects including but not limited to, remediation and reclamation work, transportation of construction equipment and materials.

Responsibilities:

  • Driving company vehicle in compliance with the company’s operating safety policies and procedures
  • Deliver equipment and other material as determined by the Supervisor.
  • Safely load and unload equipment and secure loads for transportation as required.
  • Perform daily preventative maintenance inspections and safety checks to proactively identify any potential mechanical issues and advise the Supervisor.
  • Always keep vehicle in a clean and professional condition.
  • Complete accurate daily pre-inspections and post-inspections regulatory logs, Field Level Hazard Assessment sheets for all worksites, transportation timesheets and submit to the Supervisor.
  • Behave in a manner that ensures the safety of themselves, their co-workers, and others on the work sites.
  • Attend and participate in toolbox and safety meetings as scheduled.
  • Report unsafe work, unsafe conditions, incidents, injuries and near misses to supervisor and participate in the investigative process.
  • Comply with established company and client policies and procedures and Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when and where required.
  • Assist other employees when required.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience moving Heavy Equipment.
  • Must have Valid Class 1 driver’s license with air endorsement (candidate to provide a current drivers’ abstract).
  • Must be able to drive standard transmission (18 speed).
  • Active Construction Safety Training System (CSTS) Certification.
  • Ability to identify and describe mechanical issues on the truck/trailer.
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment.
  • Self-motivated and able to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic with demonstrated dedication and reliability.
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making capabilities.
  • Must be able to work as a member of a greater team.
  • CSTS/OSSA or BSO Certification, or ESC CSO certification.
  • Must be in good health and physical condition to perform duties assigned.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-access drug and alcohol test.
  • Meeting TDG requirements for hauling petroleum products.
  • H2S, and First-Aid is an asset.
