POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Senior Operations Manager, the Lead Hand oversees the daily operations across various services while also handling full-time driving responsibilities. Responsible for transporting a variety of cargo on flatbed trailers while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and securing loads properly. Your role includes conducting pre-trip and post-trip inspections, managing delivery schedules, and operating the vehicle safely on various routes.
ALONG WITH THE FOLLOWING SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:
- Must be comfortable with both city and highway driving, regular tight turns, and backup into small docks
- Ability to lift to 50lbs consistently
- Follow company rules and regulations in regard to safety and hours of service
Responsibilities:
- Organize, coordinate, schedule drivers
- Document and report on the various maintenance or delivery operations
- Train, mentor, coach, and guide the drivers on safety, PM, continuous improvement, and operational efficiencies
- Ensure safe and timely delivery of loads
- Secure loads with proper strapping, regardless of weather conditions
- Report to dispatch at the start and end of each shift
- Maintain consistent communication with customers throughout the delivery process.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle, including checking tires, brakes, lights, and cargo securement, and report any issues to the maintenance department for timely repairs
