Responsibilities

The successful candidate will fulfil a dual role in our business. Driving days will typically involve driving a rigid lorry, to locations across the UK, loading the vehicle and then bringing the collected items back to the warehouse in Caerphilly.
The driving days are often long hours (subject to regulations) starting early in the mornings (often 05:00 or 06:00) and often finishing late (e.g. 20:00). On occasions, an overnight stay might be needed (can be up to 2-3 a month).
The role is very physically demanding, and a hard-working attitude is essential.
The removal process at the client’s site is technically challenging – often including the use of high-lift pallet trucks, machine skates, toe jacks, and much more. No experience is needed with any of this equipment – just a desire to learn!
The role is unique and is ideally suited to an ambitious candidate looking for a dynamic role that blends driving duties with physically and mentally stimulating removal tasks and customer service.
Whilst the driving days can be long, we offer great compensation in terms of role flexibility on non-driving days. For example, some of our staff choose to work half days or take days off in lieu of their driving hours if they have already completed their 40 hours on collections that week.

Example day on the job (driving)

  • Start shift at the warehouse at 06:00 alongside collection team-mate.
  • Complete vehicle check,
  • Drive HGV to a city (e.g. Oxford, Cambridge, Birmingham etc) parking at or near a loading bay (taking driving breaks as appropriate).
  • Meet a client at the site and be shown the equipment to be removed.
  • Use pallet trucks, pallet collars, sack trucks, furniture skates, or other equipment to remove and palletise equipment from storerooms, laboratories etc. Equipment might include ovens, fridges, benching, microscopes etc. This removal process can take several hours and involves a lot of manual handling.
  • Load the goods into the lorry and secure.
  • Complete collection receipt with the client.
  • Drive HGV back to the warehouse (taking driving breaks as appropriate).
  • On rare occasions, shifts can exceed 15 hours but within driving regulations and dual manning

Example day on the job (non-driving)

  • Start shift at your preferred time (subject to any particular work demands)
  • Unload any collection vehicles from the previous day (where applicable).
  • Assist with preparing goods for outbound, general warehouse duties, stocking products, picking, packing etc. There are a wide variety of other duties.
  • If desired, we can also provide training for the use of forklifts and high-lift order pickers at our site.
  • Load vehicles with equipment for the following day (where applicable)
  • End shift at your preferred time (subject to any particular work demands)
