Description POSITION SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to drive a tractor trailer on intrastate and interstate routes to deliver and/or unload finished product to customers in a safe and timely manner and in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Routes will be local. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform driving assignments as directed by dispatch on time with no cargo loss or damage. Ensure compliance with all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations relating to the operation of a commercial motor vehicle. Comply with hours of service regulations. Perform proper pre-trip, on-the-road trip, and post-trip inspections as required by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and complete company vehicle inspection report forms, ensuring vehicle and trailer are in safe operating condition. Ensure proper loading, securing and weight distribution of cargo before and during trip. Protect cargo against shifting, damage and/or theft. Communicate all variances to scheduled pickup and delivery appointments promptly so the company can notify the customer and take corrective action as needed. Sign and complete all paperwork including Driver’s Daily Logs, trip reports, and bills of lading or any other paperwork accurately and submit it promptly. Working knowledge of vehicle maintenance and ability to complete routine maintenance tasks (changing tires, check and add fluids, etc.). Communicate effectively when issues arise while making deliveries. Expected to adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP and HACCP guidelines, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality or personnel safety. Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, clients, co-workers, and management. Assist moving trailers between facilities as needed Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS: High School Diploma or GED. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) class A. Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for past 3 years. Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check. Current DOT Health Card and/or able to secure new DOT Health Card. PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS: 2+ years of class A over the road (OTR) driving experience and/or yard switching experience. Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) Certification Always adhere to road safety regulations. Ability to work independently, handle multiple tasks and problem solve effectively. Availability to work a 12-hour day when needed. Availability to work weekends and holidays. Must be able to lift, carry and balance up to 50 lbs. with extreme care and caution when working with plants and product.
