At the Western Kentucky Correctional Complex, the mission is to promote safety for the citizens of the Commonwealth by operating an efficient, adult male, medium-security institution. Our main purpose is to provide a safe, secure, humane environment for its residents and to prepare incarcerated felons for a successful reintegration into society through the use of constructive classification, employment training programs and treatment services and social programs.
The Classification & Treatment Officer is vital to this mission by performing duties in the evaluation, assessment and counseling of inmates.

The responsibilities may include:

  • Interviewing, evaluating and assessing inmates to identify behavioral patterns
  • Develop case history on inmates
  • Serve on committees to determine classification
  • Prepare reports to assist with classification
  • Provide daily counsel to inmates regarding the institution as well as personal or family matters
  • Respond to inmate requests and outside agencies

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor’s degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: NONE

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Additional experience in corrections, law enforcement, or a related field will substitute for the education on a year for year basis. Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required education on a year for year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE

Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in an office setting within a correctional institution.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
