Job Description
The incumbent will register patients using Meditech software. Validate healthcare coverage. Acquire required information and payment method for uninsured patients and accurately enters all required data. Answer telephones. Deal with inquiries from the public, family and hospital staff. Complete various clerical tasks/audits as required. Order and organize supplies. Admit patients following established protocols and collaboration with nursing unit staff regarding bed allocation. Work with accommodation staff to reassign beds as necessitated through preferred accommodations. Acquire appropriate insurance information and required signatures from patient or family members. Manage bill payment amounts and receipts for patients. Admitting works directly with local funeral homes to arrange the safe pick up of deceased patients and ensures that all necessary documentation is completed prior to release. Other related duties as required.

  • Medical terminology required
  • Previous experience in a patient care/clinical setting required
  • A Medical Office Administration diploma from a recognized college is considered an asset
  • Must have experience and be familiar with MS Word and Outlook email
  • A minimum of 30 wpm typing speed required
  • Must have fast and accurate computer data entry skills
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Must be able to prioritize workload and function independently in a busy environment
  • Must be physically able to perform the job: prolonged periods of time sitting; pushing and pulling variety of wheeled equipment; repetitive forward bending, hand/arm activities, hand/finger dexterity; and carrying/lifting approximately 25lbs
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English fluently
  • Demonstrated public relations skills and the ability to diplomatically respond to physicians, staff, and family inquires in a demanding work environment
  • Health Information Certification Associate (HICA) designation an asset
  • Satisfactory employment record and good attendance record

Additional Information
Status: Permanent Part-time
Hours: Monday to Sunday - All shifts, weekends and holidays (Hours are subject to change based on operational needs)
Salary: $26.850 to $29.130 per hour
