POSITION OVERVIEW

Working as a member of the Health Information Services team, the incumbent is responsible to perform a variet of tasks related to health information including but not limited to patient/client registration, creating and maintaining the patient/client health record, filing, record retention and destruction and release of personal health information for ongoing care.

EXPERIENCE

  • One (1) year experience in a Health Information Services Department required within the last two years.

or

  • One (1) year experience in a Medical Office required within the last two years.
  • Experience working with both electroinc and paper health records preferred.

A combination of education and experience may be considered.

EDUCATION (DEGREE/DIPLOMA/CERTIFICATE)

  • Complete high school education, Manitoba Standards, required
  • Successful completion of a recognized Medical/Surgical Office Assistant diploma required.
  • Successful completion of a recognized Health Information Management program perferred.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Typing/keyboarding skills (minimum 30 wpm) required.
  • Medical terminology (75% pass) required.
  • Operational knowledge of computer terminals required.
  • Good command of English (oral and written) required.
  • Good interperonsal communication skills required.
  • Problem-solves and exercises judgement for decision-making within the scope of the job description.
  • Good understanding of the Mental Health Act and Personal Health Information Act.
  • Ensures security of patient/client health records and personal health information within the department.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged sitting.
  • Standing, walking, stairs, bending, reaching above head, lifting/moving patient records and boxes upto 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to deal with the public, patients/clients, coworkers, health care professionals, managers in a courteous, respectful and confidential manner.
  • Work environment consists of frequent interruptions.
  • Must be able to review documents electronically via a computer monitor screen for prolonged periods.
  • Working as part of a team.
  • Working alone.
  • No natural light.
  • Adheres to all safety and health policies, regulations ans safe work practices.
  • May be required to travel throughout the service area requiring a valid Manitoba driver’s license and use of a personal motor vehicle.
