Department of Transportation and Infrastructure   Clerk of the Works (Professional Services Contract) (Up to three (3) years)   Open   Buildings Division – Construction   Bathurst (one (1) Position) Saint John (one (1) Position)   Who we are   The work we do has a positive impact on our communities and helps improve the everyday lives of New Brunswickers.  Together, we are over 45,000 New Brunswickers who are passionate problem-solvers, who make a difference and are proud to call New Brunswick home.   The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure has a broad mandate and is committed to maintaining and improving New Brunswick’s public infrastructure.  The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure’s mission is to contribute to New Brunswick’s economy and quality of life by providing and supporting sustainable infrastructure that allows for the safe and efficient movement of people, goods and government services to the public.  Not only is the department responsible for managing over 18,000 kilometers of provincial highways, it also manages the planning, design and construction of hospitals, schools and other government buildings.   What you will do   As members of Buildings Group, the clerks of the works are the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure site representatives for various job sites.  Construction projects in the regions vary in size and scope from new school construction and renovations, hospital additions and renovations, nursing home construction, court house construction, jail construction, radon remediation in existing buildings, communication towers, etc.   Reporting to the Regional Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:    * managing some project responsibilities of the construction phase; * attending project meetings; * coordinating activities; * coordinating third party inspection; * overseeing daily site reports; * verifying adherence to project drawings and specifications; * communicating issues to the respective DTI project manager.   Work environment:   * Locations:  Bathurst, Bathurst Provincial Building or site office.  Saint John, 110 Charlotte Street or site office.  Please indicate the location(s) you wish to be considered for. * Open office layout or site trailer. * Standard hours of work:  Monday – Friday. * We promote a scent-reduced environment. * Occasional work on holidays, weekends, and/or variable hours.   Who you are   Key behavioural competencies:   * Analytical Thinking/Judgment * Effective Interactive Communication * Initiative   Essential Qualifications:   * A high school diploma or GED. * A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a general construction environment. * Demonstrated experience in earthworks, concrete, structural erection, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, controls, equipment installation, roofing and interior finishes.  Proficiency in reading and understanding specifications and construction drawings.  Broad understanding of various codes, practices and standards in building construction. * Experience with Microsoft Office Suite. * Valid Class 5 driver’s license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick.   An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.   Bathurst position:  Written and spoken competence in English and French is required.   Saint John position:  Written and spoken competence in English is required.  Please state your language capability.   * Applicants must clearly demonstrate the essential qualifications to be given further consideration. * Résumés should be in chronological order specifying education and employment in months and years including part-time and full-time employment. * Please ensure that your preferred language of assessment is identified in your résumé.
