Southampton City Council is looking for a confident and self-motivated individual to undertake the role of a Clerk of Works within the Contracts and Commercial Services team. You will be working alongside and supporting the Project Manager as well as Managers within Southampton City Council’s Housing Operations.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for supporting the Project Manager in delivering a £4m - £8m per annum contract managing the Procured Contractor that will be carrying out repairs and refurbishment to Southampton City Council housing properties ensuring that quality work is completed on time and within budget.
You will assist the Project Manager in monitoring a contract, focusing on quality, budget and time. You will be required to carry out auditable inspections and quality control checks as well as appropriately challenging the contractor on issues and matters identified. In addition, you will also have an understanding and the ability to interpret the policies and procedures which underpin service delivery within Housing Operations.
We are looking for someone who can build successful working arrangements and partnerships with other internal and external service providers and ensure that productivity levels are optimised across all areas of responsibility.
It is essential for you to have a practical understanding of construction / property maintenance industry. Additional working knowledge and experience of CDM and Health and Safety policies are essential for this role, along with being educated in a relevant building qualification or HNC / HND or equivalent experience as well as membership to the ICWCI (Institute of Clerk of Work and Construction Inspectorate) or similar.
The successful applicant must have a full clean driving licence. You will also be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS check.
As the work is varied a flexible approach is required to meet changing needs and tight deadlines. Excellent customer service skills, enthusiasm, and a ‘can do’ attitude is all essential as you’ll be our ambassador when you visit our customers’ homes to carry out quality control checks. You will liaise with residents, peers and colleagues on a daily basis so communication and customer focus will be essential to the role. Organisational, customer service and time management skills are key to this role.
