Our children deserve the best possible education. Everyone involved in governance - whether sitting on a board or providing clerking services to it - must strive for the highest professional standards. Oxfordshire County Council Governor Services are champions for high quality school governance and aim to ensure that governors and governance professionals (formerly known as clerks) have the necessary skills to deliver it. We take an active interest in the quality of governance in schools. We encourage and support high standards, recognising where a school could improve and enabling governing boards to do so. The Clerking Service provides governance professionals to local school boards throughout the county and is currently seeking new team members to meet demand. Our governance professionals are vital to the success of Oxfordshire governing boards in their strategic leadership of schools.

Governance professionals have a key role to play in organising and attending meetings, building relationships, recording minutes and providing professional advice to the board. Each governance professional supports two or more school boards, with each governing board usually having six meetings every year. All new governance professionals receive induction training with regular training opportunities and support available throughout the year from the Governor Services Team.
