JOB DESCRIPTION

Department: Community Well-Being
Initial Reporting Location: 199 Larch Street
Job Status: Limited Position
Estimated Probable Duration: Up to Eighteen (18) Months
Affiliation: CUPE 4705 Inside Unit
Hours of Work: 70 hours bi-weekly
Shift Work Required: No
Range of Pay: Group 12 - $34.10 to $43.02 per hour

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful completion of a college diploma in Social Services or a related field from a recognized community college with Canadian accreditation.
  • Life skills training considered an asset.
  • Minimum of two (2) years work experience in Social Services addictions or mental health.
  • Experience addressing the needs of individuals and families experiencing homelessness or those at risk of homelessness including developing and implementing successful case management plans.
  • Experience in assisting persons living with addictions, mental health, psycho/social/physical, education, emotional, and/or environmental concerns in a social service setting.
  • Experience with conflict resolutions practices including “in the moment” problem solving and intervention.
  • Ability to enhance participant motivation in order to make and follow through on decisions related to housing stability and wellness.
  • Understanding of community agencies and a cross section of service providers.
  • Knowledge of services to support this population and an ability to provide participant advocacy and proactive participant planning with other system elements.
  • Competent interpersonal and communications skills and demonstrated ability to serve the public in a courteous and effective manner.
  • Proven ability to work with computer software in a Windows environment (e.g., file maintenance, word processing, spreadsheet applications, information input and retrieval, etc.).
  • Demonstrated report writing skills.
  • Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
  • French verbal and written skills an asset.
  • Provide, at own cost, a current Criminal Reference Check.
  • Satisfactory health, attendance, and former employment history.
  • Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid driver’s licence, have an acceptable driving
    record, and personal insurance coverage.

    This job is also being posted as a development opportunity. Should there be no fully qualified candidate for this position, a candidate who can be expected to meet the required qualifications within a reasonable period of time may be considered for this position as a development opportunity.
    Development opportunity range of pay: $31.79 to $39.50 per hour. The successful candidate will be paid at the reduced range until the minimum qualifications have been met.
