Role description: The Climate Adaptation Specialist will join the Disaster and Climate Resilience Solution Team and will report to the Climate Adaptation Solutions Director for Canada. This role focuses on providing technical leadership and contributing to the development and implementation of Arcadis' climate adaptation and resilience strategies. The successful candidate will work closely with the Director to develop and execute the Canada Climate Adaptation Strategy and will work with the project teams and leadership to deliver innovative solutions aligned with emerging market trends, client needs, and regulatory drivers. They will actively collaborate across sectors and geographies to ensure the successful delivery of projects and the growth of Arcadis' climate adaptation portfolio. This position emphasizes project execution and team collaboration, requiring strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills. The Specialist will also play a role in fostering knowledge-sharing within Arcadis. We work on impactful projects that require innovative approaches while building on existing best practices in science, engineering, urban planning, digital solutions, and policy design in Canada and internationally. Role accountabilities: Client Engagement and Market Awareness: Key responsibilities for this role include engaging with clients and maintaining a solid understanding of their needs, as well as staying up-to-date on market trends and regulatory developments related to climate adaptation in Canada. The role involves supporting the development of proposals and presentations by contributing technical insights and providing contextual information during project pursuits. Active participation in industry events, conferences, and technical forums is also important, as it helps to broaden professional networks and offers opportunities to showcase Arcadis' climate adaptation work. Technical Delivery and Project Support: On the technical delivery and project support side, you will lead and contribute your expertise to climate risk assessment, climate adaptation, and resilience planning projects, ensuring that the work delivered is of high quality and meets client expectations. Developing tailored solutions and deliverables is a key part of the job, and you will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to address complex challenges. Keeping abreast of advancements in technical methodologies, relevant standards, and industry best practices—and applying this knowledge to ongoing project work—is essential. Team Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing: Collaboration and knowledge sharing are also central to this position. You will work closely with internal teams, including technical specialists and project managers, to ensure the successful execution of projects. Sharing knowledge and lessons learned with colleagues, as well as seeking opportunities to leverage best practices across projects and regions, is strongly encouraged. Business Development Support: Supporting business development is another important aspect of the role. This includes assisting with market research and competitor analysis to help identify new opportunities and areas for innovation in climate adaptation. You may be asked to contribute to business development activities such as preparing content for thought leadership pieces or supporting client engagement initiatives, often in coordination with leadership. You will also play a role in helping to grow Arcadis' climate adaptation practice by supporting strategies that align with global and client priorities. Skills and Competencies: The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of climate risk assessment and climate adaptation methods and best practices. Excellent technical writing and communication skills are required, along with strong reporting and presentation abilities. The role also demands strong problem-solving and analytical skills, enabling the development of creative and practical solutions. Interpersonal skills are important for effective collaboration across teams and for building lasting relationships with Arcadis experts and clients. Strong project management skills are also essential to succeed in this role. Qualifications & Experience: The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and experience: A Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Planning, Geography, Economics, Public Policy, or a related discipline. 5-10 years of relevant experience in environmental consulting, climate adaptation, or resilience planning. Experience delivering medium to large-scale climate adaptation projects. Strong understanding of, and experience with, international best practices in climate adaptation, national climate adaptation strategy, standards, regulations and codes of practice. System thinking approach and an understanding of how various sectors and expertise play a role in climate risk assessment and climate adaptation planning. Why Arcadis? The salary range for this position is $89,600-134,400. The base salary represents Arcadis' hiring range for this position.
