REQUIREMENTS

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (required)
  • Active nursing license in Virginia (required)
  • Current BLS certification (required but can be obtained after hire)
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience (required)
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
  • Knowledge of nursing practices, techniques, and methods as applied to skilled nursing
  • Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) and medical software
  • Understanding of patient confidentiality laws and practices, including HIPAA
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the role, including lifting patients or equipment
  • Willingness to continue education to maintain licensure and stay current with the nursing practice
  • Basic computer literacy and skills
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Responsibilities
  • Provide basic patient care under the direction of physicians and nurse practitioners.
  • Measure and record patients’ vital signs, such as blood pressure, temperature, heart rate, and respiration.
  • Administer prescribed medications, including injections, and monitor patients for reactions or side effects.
  • Report patients’ status and concerns to doctors and nurse practitioners.
  • Help with the collection of samples for lab testing, such as urine, blood, and sputum, and perform routine laboratory tests.
  • Monitor and adjust specialized equipment used on patients and interpret and record measurements.
  • Maintain patient records with accurate, timely notes on care provided.
  • Educate patients and their families on health maintenance and disease prevention, and provide patient teaching as directed by the provider, including lab results, diet instructions, medication instructions, and appropriate follow-up.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to plan and evaluate patient care plans.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and their families.
  • Ensure that the nursing practice adheres to established ethical standards and regulations.
  • Supervise medical assistants, providing guidance and instruction as needed.
  • Participate in continuing education to update knowledge and skills.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment by adhering to infection-control policies and ensuring work areas, exam rooms, treatment rooms, and labs are clean, safe, and stocked with supplies and instruments.
  • Prepare patients for provider evaluation, including obtaining specimens, positioning for exams, listing medications, and assisting during exams and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Assist with referral authorizations for specialists and pre-authorization for testing and ancillary services.
