We are currently seeking a Pre-Operative Registered Nurse to join our Leawood Clinic team. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented nurse who thrives in a structured clinical setting and values patient education, coordination, and surgical excellence. Position Overview As a Pre-Operative RN, you will play a vital role in preparing patients for ophthalmic surgery. You will serve as a key liaison between the clinic, surgical center, physicians, primary care providers, and patients ensuring a seamless and well-coordinated surgical experience. Your work directly contributes to patient safety, surgical efficiency, and positive outcomes. Schedule Monday–Friday | 40 hours per week (Option for four 10-hour shifts based on case load) What You’ll Do Prepare and educate patients for surgery to promote confidence and reduce anxiety Review medical histories and assess vital signs Perform physical assessments including heart and lung evaluation Conduct ophthalmic diagnostic testing including biometry (immersion and IOLMaster), keratometry, pachymetry, and corneal topography Understand and apply ophthalmic terminology related to retina, cataracts, refractive surgery, glaucoma, and oculoplastics Provide detailed instruction on medications, diet, eye preparation, anesthesia expectations, and post-operative care Obtain medical clearance from PCPs or specialists (cardiology, endocrinology, etc.) when indicated Confirm intraocular lens (IOL) selections with surgeons and prepare surgical charts Oversee surgery schedules, case flow, and patient arrival times Print and prepare daily surgery schedules for each surgeon Triage patient phone calls and address pre-operative concerns Perform advanced calculations for complex or unusual surgical cases Enter and track cataract surgery outcomes data Provide support to the ASC when needed Requirements Qualifications Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Kansas Strong assessment and patient education skills Excellent organizational and coordination abilities Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced surgical environment Ophthalmology or surgical experience preferred, but not required Commitment to delivering a calm, confident, patient-centered experience Why Join Discover Vision?
