The Clinic Receptionist provides indirect patient care in the medical office/clinic setting. Greets and registers patients. Verifies patient demographic and insurance information. Performs clerical duties. Meets the communication needs of the patient/family, medical office/clinic staff and the medical staff. Responsibilities: Registers all patients, gives new patients medical forms to complete. Offers access to patient portal and records in computer system for tracking. Verifies patient demographic, employment and insurance information and scans all insurance information. Explains billing policies, collects copayments, refers patients without insurance to the PFS Department. Calls all patients to verify appointments. Prepares encounter slips daily for the following day. Schedules new and return appointments; explains registration process and gives directions to new patients; may explain procedure preparation to patients. Answers the telephone in a professional and courteous manner; takes messages; directs calls to appropriate staff members. Maintains patient schedule each day inputs demographics for new patients. Maintains daily patient log. Collects payments, writes receipts. Records all incoming payments onto a form for processing. Maintains a good working relationship with medical office/clinic staff members and providers. Requests medical records as needed and maintains log. Scans documents to the EMR. Sends all requested medical records per policy and procedures Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements High School Graduate or equivalent. One year experience in a medical office setting. Basic computer knowledge Knowledge of medical terminology. Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing: bilingual preferred. Ability and willingness to demonstrate and maintain competency as required for job title and the unit(s) area(s) or assignment. Excellent communication skills to include oral and written comprehension/expression. Ability and willingness to work with patients’ growth and development needs particularly related to the age of patients in the unit(s) area(s) of assignment. Ability and willingness to exhibit behaviors consistent with principles for service excellence.
