At NorthBay Health, the Clinic Resource LVN III - Cardiac Device Specialist is responsible for providing direct patient care in support of a provider in an ambulatory care setting. Distribution of staff and patients may require reassignment to other nursing areas. The Licensed Vocational Nurse is responsible for monitoring and auditing clinic operations to ensure adherence to regulatory and professional standards. In addition to the standard LVN responsibilities the Cardiac Device Specialist is responsible for providing direct and specialized nursing care in support of cardiac electrophysiology and device management services. This role includes comprehensive management of patients with implanted cardiac devices such as pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs), and implantable loop recorders (ILRs).The Cardiac Device Specialist performs device interrogations, interprets and reprograms devices under minimal physician supervision, ensures proper documentation and charge capture, and serves as a key liaison between patients, physicians, and clinical teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes and continuity of care. PRIMARY JOB DUTIES 1. Provides direct patient care according per organizational policies and procedures. 2. Prepares patient for provider including vital signs and collection of clinical data. 3. Administers medications to patients, including, oral, injections, IV’s and nebulizer treatments as ordered by provider. 4. Assists provider and/or performs procedures in assigned area within scope of practice. 5. Functions as a resource to assist staff and providers to process charges and create a new FIN for specific out-patient clinic procedures when appropriate. 6. Documents patient encounters according to nursing policies. 7. Reviews preventative guidelines. 8. Keeps an inventory and prepares orders for supplies. 9. Actively participates in QI activities. 10. Presents a professional demeanor in appearance and attitude. 11. Performs audits to ensure adherence to regulatory and professional standards. 12. Assists with the medication reconciliation/medication refill process relative to the electronic medical record. 13. Performs other duties as assigned. 14. Floats to other areas as needed. Cardiac Device Specialist duties: Performs or delegates ICD, Pacemaker, and ILR evaluations for outpatients, inpatients, and procedure areas. Interrogates, interprets, and reprograms cardiac devices with minimal physician supervision. Assesses the condition and appearance of the implant site and documents any abnormalities. Troubleshoots critical device issues and takes immediate steps toward resolution. Ensures accurate documentation of device evaluations and charge capture in the EMR. Collaborates with physicians to review and document device status and research findings. Educates patients on all aspects of their implanted device, including remote monitoring and follow-up protocols. Serves as a resource to physicians and other staff members regarding device management and workflows. Provides mentorship and training to junior staff in cardiac device interrogation policies and procedures. Promotes a positive and collaborative work environment through effective communication and teamwork. Participates in quality improvement initiatives related to cardiac device care.
